MixMob, a Solana-based gaming universe being built around “remix culture,” announced that its debut game MixMob: Racer 1 will launch on the iOS App Store and Android Play Store on May 14 following a previous web-based debut.

The card-based strategic racing game challenges players to compete for crypto rewards in a dystopian world, where they must resist a malevolent AI that has destroyed human culture. MixMob has described the game as “Mario Kart meets Hearthstone,” with a mix of racing strategy and card selection in the moment-to-moment action.

The free-to-play game utilizes MixMob’s MXM token on Solana, letting holders participate in governance and earn rewards. Players can stake tokens in “Turbo Arenas” that also work as liquidity pools. Staking the token lets players take part in governance votes and earn rewards.

MXM was launched on February 1 and airdropped to early players and contributors. Currently priced at just under $0.05 per data from CoinGecko, the Solana-based token is up 22% over the past week in the run-up to the mobile launch.

In anticipation of the launch next week, MixMob exclusively shared the mobile launch trailer above with Decrypt’s GG. Alongside the mobile rollout, MixMob will open up in-game leaderboards in advance of the first “World Clash” competition on May 30.

The iPhone and iPad version of MixMob: Racer 1 is available to “pre-order” now globally, and then will automatically download on May 14. MixMob is working with gaming guilds like Yield Guild Games and Merit Circle to promote the launch, the company said, and will be tapping into web and social media advertising to help spread the word.

The mobile launch for MixMob: Racer 1 was originally planned for May 7, but was delayed on Monday as the team said it wanted to implement various enhancements and feature additions.

While available for anyone to play free, MixMob: Racer 1 also includes an optional NFT component, letting players purchase and equip Solana NFT “MixBots” and masks to use in the game. Owners have also been eligible for token rewards via airdrops in recent months.

Alongside developing its own original gaming franchise, MixMob has also been making a play to bring in well-known pop culture IP via licensing deals. The first of those, for the original Stormtrooper character design from “Star Wars,” was announced in February, with the character set to be sold as an in-game NFT.
